Review

Made at the peak of the "body-swap" movie craze, "18 Again" is the cousin of "Vice Versa" with Judge Reinhold, "Like Father Like Son" with Dudley Moore and "Big" with Tom Hanks.

The movie begins with the young-at-center millionaire, Jack Watson (George Burns), who is having a party celebrating his 81st altogether. His family unit favorite is his introvert eighteen-twelvemonth-onetime grandson, David Watson (Charlie Schlatter). As Jack blows out the candles on his birthday cake he makes a wish that he would be xviii over again, hence the championship.

Subsequently, on the way home afterward a quick fast-food stop and lesson in love, a momentary loss of concentration on Jack's function causes a tragic motorcar accident which, as it turns out after, has spiritually switched their minds and bodies.

Jack is left asleep in the hospital with his grandson'south mind, while David is alive and well with his grandfather'due south mind.

David is a freshman in college and faced with many teen issues such as getting picked on by older frat brothers, chasing subsequently his dream daughter and trying to keep up with his teamates on the runway team.

He's not doing so adept.

But, with Jack's enthusiastic personality in David'due south body, he easily overcomes these obstacles -Which just leaves upholding his families name and Grandfathers legacy in the the symbolic rails race he has to endure at the stop of the movie.

Although the picture --and particulary the ending- may be predictable, this motion-picture show is delightful for all ages, not just for teens. The warm and very funny script is matched with truly fantabulous performances and chemistry betwixt Burns and Schlatter. Both actors are simply wonderful to behold and make an average premise into an higher up average movie. Their sincere portrayal makes the viewer realize that they should appreciate what they have before it's gone, and you should live life to the fullest and take no regrets.

Although the movie was critisized for post-obit the belatedly 80's trend of body swapping, comparable to "Vice Versa" and "Like Father Like Son", this movie has information technology's own singled-out characteristics. Charlie Schlatter does an excellent job mimicking every distinct move of George Burns, including the mode he holds his cigar, the mode he slants his optics and his quondam-man strut... It'southward classic!

The movie is also titled after George Burn's simply hit vocal, "I Wish I was 18 Again" besides performed in the movie. The movie besides features appearances from Pauly Shore and Crimson Buttons, Jack and David Watson'south all-time friends, who aid go them through the picture show.

After watching this movie, just maybe you lot'll appreciate the valuable lessons learned in life from the onetime and the young.

Verdict

I give this moving-picture show an 9 out of 10 considering information technology is yet another of the movies to be filmed following the 80's trend of switching trunk and mind.

Merely, come up one now... George Burns is in information technology... He'due south pure form... He's the epitome of the almost distinctive actor, from the bow-ties to the round glasses to the never-catastrophe cigar smoking. He'll forever remain in my heart. I hateful who wouldn't want George Burns as their grandfather? It is a shame that he isn't really in the majority of the picture show, merely his voiceovers practice add a god-similar quality [see trivia!].

18 Once more mixes both onetime actors and up-and-coming actors of the late 80's. It as well mixes genres of comedy, run a risk and drama... A fit for all types of viewers. It is definitely a must-come across for you lot 80'south fans!

18 Over again uses a lot of symbolism through out the movie which makes it distinct (i.e. the mural and the track meet. It uses a great tie-in of onetime and immature actors and Charlie Schlatter does an incredible rendition of George Burns!

This movie leaves the viewer in a quandry of how in the world did the grandfather and grandson switch bodies to begin with?...Well, that's what makes it then unique and leaves the audience deciding for themselves. The ending is predictable, but what teen movie isn't??
